Cdpp

CDPP (Centre de Données sur la Physique des Plasmas spatiaux) is the French plasma physics data centre.

CDPP’s mission is to maintain the record of natural plasma physics data and make it available to the national and international scientific community.

These data are stored by CNES at its IT centre in Toulouse.

Data provision is the responsibility of the IRAP astrophysics and planetology research institute and relies on science and support tools developed to specification by the institute with technical and funding support from CNES. These include the AMDA data plotting and mining tool, the 3DView tool for visualizing measured or simulated data along satellite tracks and displaying scientific models, and the Propagation Tool for tracking the evolution of solar disturbances in the heliosphere.

CDPP is also contributing to a number of interoperability projects involving data standardization and description, employing virtual observatory technologies. It is also participating in the space weather side of ESA’s Space Situational Awareness (SSA) programme.

CDPP is governed by a joint agreement between CNES, the INSU national institute for universe sciences, Paul Sabatier University and the Paris Observatory, renewed every four years. Like the MEDOC solar physics data centre, with which it maintains close scientific and technological ties, CDPP gets funding from CNES, from INSU through IRAP and from Paul Sabatier University, which supply staff and premises. It is a member of the PNST national Sun-Earth programme working group leading research in the field, to which CNES also contributes.
